María Escudero Escribano, ICREA Research Professor and Group Leader at the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology and ICONIC researcher, has been awarded the prize in the modality “Maria Teresa Toral” in chemical science and technology in the category for young researchers.

The Spanish National Research Awards are Spain’s most important recognition in the field of scientific research, awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities. As explained in the official announcement, María Escudero Escribano has been honoured for her innovative research in electrochemical processes, as well as in the design, at the atomic level, of new advanced materials. The Jury also highlights her leadership and the scientific and technological solutions that those discoveries provide to convert renewable electricity into green fuels such as hydrogen and liquid fuels for sustainable aviation and maritime transport.

At ICONIC, her team focuses on characterizing the electrochemical interfaces and nanomaterials with in-situ advanced spectroscopy and microscopy to discover reaction mechanisms and improve the catalyst performance.
